A group of London explorers venture into the wilds of the Amazon to bring back proof of living dinosaurs. The explorers’ foray into the ‘lost world’ disturbs its prehistoric inhabitants, and an ape-like missing link character haunts the explorers’ camp with malicious intent. Based on the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the film is credited as having significant influence on the 1933 King Kong (which also features Willis O’Brien’s special effects). Over 65 years later, Steven Spielberg would recreate The Lost World story in Jurassic Park (1993).
